Chapter Eight

Aiden

“Not tonight.”

“What?”

Win reared back and looked up at me.

My hand dropped from her lush ass, and she was too far away from me.

“What do you mean not tonight?” she spat.

I was just as confused as she was. Something was telling me not tonight. I didn’t want to rush this between Win and me. If we went too fast, we were going to ruin us before we even started. “I think we should take a second to breathe, Win.”

“Breathe? You’re the one who came to the bar tonight, and now you’re telling me you need to breathe?” She cackled and looked up at the sky. “What the hell?”

And now she was mad at me. “Why don’t we go out tomorrow night?” I suggested. I didn’t want this to be a one-night stand and then we were over. I wanted a million nights with her, and I wasn’t even sure that was going to be enough.

Win shook her head and grabbed her helmet that was hanging on the handlebars of her bike. “I have plans.”

“Sunday night?” I offered.

She plopped the helmet on her head and snapped the strap under her chin. “I’ll let you know.”

I was losing her. What I was trying to avoid was happening right in front of me. “Win,” I pleaded.

She swung her leg over the bike and pulled a key from her pocket. “Yes, Mr. Halifax?”

I had been seconds away from having her call me Aiden, and now we were back to Mr. Halifax.

Son of a bitch. “Let me see you on Sunday.”

She shrugged. “I might have plans with Allan.”

My blood-boiled at the mention of the douchebag freshman. “No, you don’t.”

“Maybe I’ll give him a call when I get home.”

I knew she wouldn’t because I made sure to throw away the asshole’s phone number. She was pissed off at me, and she was trying to hurt me.

It was working, but it wasn’t going to scare me away. “I’ll call you on Sunday.”

She cranked up the bike and kicked up the kickstand. “You can try.” She revved the engine. “Have a nice night, Mr. Halifax.” She shifted the bike and rocketed away from the curb.

I watched her until I couldn’t see the glow of her taillight.

I ran my fingers through my hair and looked up at the night sky.

God, I was a fucking idiot.

I had Win exactly where I wanted her, and I had told her no.

Three weeks fantasizing of all the ways I could make her mine, and now I was standing on the side of the street; alone.

I was an idiot, but I wasn’t going to give up on Win.

She was going to be mine.
